Weekly Update

Important Announcements 
  • Book Project Due October 2nd 
    • We discussed in class that the item sheet described the items, AND it should explain why the item is important to the story. 
  • 1/2 day October 2nd
  • Photosynthesis test Monday, October 7th 
    • Students were given a study guide last week 
  • All tests and quizzes below 70 % must be signed and returned.
    • Students are allowed to come to extra help to retake ANY test or quiz for an average of the two grade.

  • Multiplication of Whole Numbers 
    • Estimating 
    • Using the Standard Algorithm (yay!)
  • Memorizing Multiplication Facts is a HUGE part of fifth grade multiplication! If your child needs a little extra help with this, please let me know! 
  • Multiplying by powers of ten   

Reading 
Test on Unit 1 Week 2
Essay- brainstorm together, and write on their own.

Unit 1 Week 3 
  • Genre- Realistic Fiction 
  • Vocabulary Skill- Homographs

Weekly Update

Important Announcements 
  • Open House is September 17th 5:30-7:30. This year students will be taking their parents on a scavenger hunt around the classroom! There will not be any presentations this year. The school is trying a more "open house" style format that involves the students! 
  • Half day on September 18th! 
  • Extra help is Tuesday at 8:15. Students are allowed to make up any tests! They should also come to work on any topic that they might be struggling with! We ask that the students come with specific questions to make the most use of the time!

Weekly Update

Important Announcements 

  • Book Projects (for my reading class) were assigned on Thursday! They are due October 2nd. 
  • Scholastic orders went home today! Books can be purchased online as well as with a check or cash! 
  • Half day on September 18th! 
  • Our class is lucky to have a Fitchburg State student teacher with us for the next 16 weeks! Mr. Laskey did some prepracticum work in my classroom last year, and I am excited he is back! 

A quick look at next week: 

Math 
  • Writing numbers to the thousandths in standard form, word form, and expanded form
  • Comparing decimals to the thousandths
  • Multiplication Facts review 
  • Quick place value quiz on Thursday! Students should know the names of the place values (millions to thousandths)- Students should be studying throughout the week! 

Reading 
Unit 1 Week 1 in Wonders 
  • Genre- Realistic Fiction 
  • Vocabulary Skill- Context Clues

Hope everyone had a great three day weekend! As the year goes on, and we have a more set schedule I will try to update this blog with a look, at the upcoming week! 


Important Announcements:

  • Students have their first math homework tonight!
  • Students have a project due on Friday about themselves! Directions for this assignment were sent home on Friday! 
  • Please be sure to send in any paperwork for the office!
